Crafts and crab cakes at Calvary Lutheran's bazaar [Glenwood/Glenelg/Dayton]

Calvary Lutheran Church's annual Christmas Bazaar will take place on Friday, Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. A lunch of soup and sandwiches will be sold between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and a crab cake dinner will be available between 4 and 7:30 p.m.

Baked goods, jams and jellies, crafts, poinsettias, cheese balls and Christmas gift items from local vendors will be featured. Call Eveline Shipley at 410-795-6705 to reserve a space for $25 if you want to sell items at the bazaar.

There will also be a white elephant room and a silent auction. In honor of Calvary's 125th anniversary, a cookbook called "Recipes and Remembrances" will be available for purchase. This book, filled with over 350 recipes from Calvary's famous cooks, will be a wonderful addition to your cookbook library, or perhaps a gift for a friend.

The Bazaar of the Churches will be held on Saturday Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Lisbon Fire Hall. Lisbon United Methodist, Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran and St Paul's Episcopal Churches will be participating in the bazaar.

Shopping includes crafts, collectibles, candy, jellies, gift baskets, baked goods, cheese balls, ornaments, nearly new items, cookbooks, nuts, flowers, and "Gourmet to Go." A silent auction will also be held. Lunch will be provided by the Lisbon Ladies Auxiliary.

Congratulations to the Folly Quarter Middle School students who were selected to perform with the Howard County Gifted & Talented Symphonic Band under the direction of Michael Votta from the University of Maryland, School of Music. Alena Shen, 2nd chair 3rd Clarinet, Amy Waddington, 2nd chair 1st Trumpet, Jeffrey Read, 1st chair 1st Trombone, Connor Dunlop, 3rd chair 1st Trombone, Audrey Lin, 4th chair Percussion and Bronwyn Gallagher, 7th chair Percussion made the cut from Folly Quarter. Shreya Shankar was selected as the Tenor Sax alternate for the ensemble. Folly Quarter Band Director Andrew Spang is justifiably proud of these talented musicians.

The Run for Rod to commemorate the life of Rodney Williams will take place on Sunday, Nov. 16, between 9 a.m. and noon. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. for the 5k run or 2k walk, and all proceeds will go to the Rodney Williams Children's Educational Fund. Help make this a successful event. Members of the choir from Glenelg United Methodist Church will perform in a Benefit Concert for the American Cancer Society on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m., at Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City. In addition to Glenelg and Bethany, other participating choirs from Glen Mar, Mt. Zion, and Linden-Linthicum United Methodist churches will be performing.
