Glenwood's Betty Adams is helping spark interest in county history [Glenwood/Glenelg/Dayton]

Glenwood resident Betty Adams is excited about the 28th annual Decorator Show House, which will be held at historic Mount Ida, the former Ellicott family mansion in Ellicott City.

Betty, a resident of Glenwood since 1998, was elected in April to the board of directors of Historic Ellicott City Inc., whose mission is to preserve and restore historic properties, primarily in the historic district of Ellicott City. Since then, she has been concentrating on publicity and sales of show book advertising for the show house committee.

The show book is currently being printed, so one of her jobs has been wrapped up, and now she is working on the publicity part of the job.

As a board member of the Howard County Historical Society, who has served as its treasurer, Betty wants to generate interest in Howard County's history, in addition to promoting Mount Ida. Betty is especially excited that Sherwin-Williams, the paint company, just featured one of the rooms from Mount Ida in their magazine to show off the wall treatment. She is eager to see that room, as well as the center hall, which has been completely restored and boxed off to make an extra room.

"I have found the entire decorator show house process fascinating from the start. It has been a wonderful experience," she said. "It was time-consuming, but I worked with a group of dedicated, hard-working volunteers from the entire county."

Mount Ida will be open every day except Monday from Sept. 28 through Oct. 27, and Betty hopes that many of our neighbors will be able to see the wonderfully restored and decorated house. Tickets for the Show House are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
