The Leo Club at Folly Quarter Middle School consists of an active group of young people who are proudly learning and living the Lions Club Motto, "We Serve."
These students, directed by Lion Patricia Watt, with assistance from Shaeleen Bader and Heather Taylor, grow produce in an outdoor greenhouse on the grounds at Folly Quarter. This produce is shared with residents of the Grassroots Homeless Shelter. In addition to maintaining the plants, the students have built a compost station in a nearby wooded area, and use the compost they make to help their plants grow.
In 2011, the Glenwood Lions Club donated wooden picnic tables to be used as an outdoor environmental classroom at Folly Quarter. That donation has been upgraded with new weather-proof furniture and a mounted wall board, and the space is used by teachers at Folly Quarter whenever the weather permits. Outdoor classrooms make learning fun. The Lions Club, and the school Leo Club, are making a difference at Folly Quarter. Principal Rick Wilson is justifiably proud of these hard working Leo Club members, and the partnership with the Lions Club.
