Student musicians in the groove at Dayton Oaks [Glenwood/Glenelg/Dayton]

Amy Syversen, the band director at Dayton Oaks Elementary School, is pleased to announce the Band Musicians of the Month for April.

On Saturday, April 11, the entire fifth grade advanced band went to the Howard County Solo and Ensemble Festival with Syversen. These students have been practicing regularly in chamber groups since August, and they did a fabulous job performing for the judges.

The next Feast at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Glenwood will be held Thursday, April 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Italian Dinner will cost $9 per person with a cap of $30 for a family. Children 5 and under are free. The food will be donated by Smokin' Hot Bar & Grille in Glenwood and is available for carry out. Proceeds will benefit St. Andrew's Mission to Honduras.

At the end of July, 15 missioners will travel to El Hogar de Amor y Esperanza (The Home of Love and Hope) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. If you want more information about the mission go to http://www.elhogar.org. For more information about the Italian Feast call 410-292-8202.

The Folly Quarter Middle School Indoor Yard Sale in March was a successful event, helping many people in our neighborhood. Over $1,700 was raised by the Leo Club and the Parent Teacher Association and will be donated to a local charity.

In addition, the Neighbor Network invited 37 families to shop for free in the donation area. A special thank you goes out to Kendall's Hardware Store for donating all of the tables that were used at the sale. Folly Quarter students are good neighbors.

Sheryl Bennett, the 4-H Extension Educator for Howard County, invites young people age 10 to 13 (as of Jan. 1) to attend 4-H Summer Science Days from Monday, July 20, through Wednesday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Howard County Fairgrounds.

This program of science fun and education is open to everyone, not just members of the 4-H program. Participants will learn about robotics, agricultural science, food science and health. The event will cost $50, and lunch and snacks will be provided. Registration is currently open at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/4-h-summer-science-days-tickets-16502255691.
