Ellie Feaga, a seventh grader at Glenwood Middle School, was recognized by Renee Foose, the superintendent of the Howard County Public School System, at the Board of Education meeting in March.
Foose talked about how Ellie was named Maryland's top middle school volunteer for 2015 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Foose introduced Ellie and David Brown, the principal at Glenwood Middle, who has been very supportive of Ellie's community service efforts.
An engraved silver medallion from Prudential was presented to Ellie at the Glenwood Middle School Leo Club meeting on Thursday, April 9. Brown, who also serves as Leo Club Advisor, organized a reception to honor Ellie after the presentation.
Members of the Leo Club have helped at Ellie's Bake Sale by baking and selling goodies and parking cars. The annual sale which has raised more than $20,000 for a variety of causes, has become a major event in the community, and led to national recognition for this energetic 13-year-old. Congratulations, Ellie.

Beginning on Sunday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. Calvary Lutheran Church will host a weekly gathering called "Welcome Home to Calvary." The gathering will focus on discussions about relationships and faith to help guide people in their daily lives. "We call this 'church for people who don't like to go to church,' " said Pastor Eric Deibler. "We understand that 'regular' church does not appeal to everyone. 'Welcome Home' enables people to reconnect with their faith in a casual and relaxed atmosphere."
To emphasize the casual setting, the event will be held in the church's fellowship hall, not in the sanctuary, and feature new discussion topics each month.
