Have you ever dreamed of performing in the world famous, award-winning musical "Les Miserables"?

Here's your chance — Howard County Summer Theater has chosen "Les Miserables" for its 2014 summer production and all roles are open.

"I believe that HCST is the first community theater (non-professional) in the area to get the rights to the produce the full show in its original form," said Chuck Bagley, Howard County Summer Theatre vice president.

Auditions are set for Saturday, Jan. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Mt. Hebron High School.  This is a departure from HCST's normal April auditions and convenient for college students home on winter break.

The casting process is as follows — arrive and sign in no more than 30 minutes after auditions begin. Bring 16-32 bars of a song that showcases your vocal skills. An accompanist and a CD player will be provided. Songs from the show are encouraged but not required. Full rehearsals will begin in late April.

Les Miserables performance dates are July 3, 5, 6 and 9 through 12.  For more information, go to  http://www.howardcountysummertheatre.org.

The first HoCo Math Festival, previously scheduled for Dec. 10, was canceled due to the snow storm.  It has been rescheduled and the new date is Wednesday, Jan. 29, 6:30 p.m., at Centennial High School (snow date Monday, Feb. 3).

According to David Gertler, a founding member of the event organizer STEMulating Minds, the free math festival "will help students become aware of the great career opportunities that are available for people with math skills and to show the plethora of uses for the various flavors of mathematics."
