'Music Man' takes the stage at Dunloggin Middle [Ellicott City]

here's trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian in Dunloggin Middle School Drama Club's Spring musical, "The Music Man."

Help celebrate Cross Country Garden Club's 60th anniversary as a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland at the annual plant and bake sale on Saturday, May 2, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of club member Betty Anne McGinty's business, Key Press, at 9041 Chevrolet Drive in Ellicott City.

Congratulations to Centennial High School student Amanda Krew, who was awarded a $2,000 Arts Scholarship for vocal music from the Howard County Arts Council .

Krew is one of five high school seniors who were awarded a scholarship, including Alexander Rothfield, Vocal Music, Glenelg High School; Emily Smith, Vocal Music, Atholton High School; Leah Prescott, Instrumental Music, Wilde Lake High School; and Alisa Hwang, Instrumental Music, Marriotts Ridge High School.

Each scholarship applicant was reviewed based on the following criteria as demonstrated in work samples and other application materials submitted: artistic merit, demonstrated understanding of artistic discipline, ability of the student to articulate artistic concepts and influences, commitment to a career in the arts, and a successful record in an academic setting.

"All of us at the Arts Council are proud of the arts programs we have developed for children and teens and we are particularly proud of our scholarship program for high school seniors. By investing in the future of these talented, emerging artists, we are investing in the future of the arts as well.And, if this year's scholarship recipients are any indication, the future looks bright!," said HCAC Executive Director Coleen West.

Scholarship funds must be used for enrollment in an accredited college program for a degree in the arts, and are sent directly to the registrar or bursar's office of the university chosen by the recipient.To learn more about HCAC and senior scholarships, go to http://www.hocoarts.org.
