Walk for Homeless raises awareness and funds [Elkridge]

Fighting homelessness in Howard County is more than just an issue of raising money. It is a fight for gaining support and for services that help homeless persons transition back into mainstream society.

With that said, the recent third annual Walk for the Homeless at Rockburn Branch Park was a success, with 60 participants coming to raise awareness as well as funds to support the annihilation of homelessness in Howard County.

Some of the participants were from the Route 1 Day Center in Laurel, which provides much needed services such as laundry, showers, food, communications and administrative support for individuals in need. Funding can be used for scholarships for housing applications, identification and proof of citizenship documents or for supplies to keep the Day Center a safe and productive environment for Howard County's homeless citizens.

Thank you to those who participated. If you'd like to support the Day Center or get connected with other programs that help to relieve homelessness in Howard County, contact a Grassroots volunteer at 301-776-9900 or daycenter@verizon.net
