Cub Scouts and soccer players making a contribution [Elkridge]

I have an update for you about the Scouting for Food event featured in this column in March. I also have an opportunity for you to get out and kick cancer by participating in a soccer juggle-a-thon benefiting the Ulman Cancer Fund.

As many of you know, Cub Scouts do many things to give back to the community. Last month, Cub Scout Pack 360 collected over 300 items from the Elkridge area through its Scouting for Food program. All of the items that were collected were given to local food banks and homeless shelters.

In addition to giving back to the community, the pack also has games and other activities throughout the year. If you would like to join, the pack meets at Trinity Episcopal Church, 7474 Washington Blvd.

On May 16, the pack will hold a picnic and recruitment event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church that will feature food and games. Families with boys currently in kindergarten through 4th grade are invited to attend. For more information, contact csp360@gmail.com.

Another group that gives back to the community is our athletes. So, calling all soccer players! A challenge to see how many times a player can bounce the soccer ball on his/her body without it touching the ground will take place on May 2, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Soccer Stop, 9505 Berger Road, in Columbia. This juggle-a-thon encourages players to practice and master one of the essential soccer skills while giving back to the community. It helps players set and accomplish goals that can be reached through commitment, hard work and self-discipline.

Come support the Ulman Cancer Fund by raising pledges for your efforts! At the juggle-a-thon there will be music and a fun atmosphere. Your donation to the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults will make a direct impact in the lives of young adults (ages 15-39) and their loved ones whose lives have been impacted by cancer. They work to ensure that young adults are not alone when facing cancer and they have the resources necessary to effectively navigate their cancer journey.

Anyone can participate. Participants can ask for pledges from parents, relatives, and friends. Each person pledging will have to decide how much money they will donate per juggle or can pay a flat amount. You will need to bring a soccer ball, indoor soccer shoes or tennis shoes and a water bottle.
