Scouting units all over Howard County are hosting their annual Scouting for Food drive on Saturday, March 14,. Scouting for Food is the Boy Scouts of America's national yearly community service project. Scouts will distribute bags the week prior of the food drive and then go back on the March 14 to pick up donations of unexpired, nonperishable food from neighbors and then take it all to 25 food pantries in the county.

Last year, the Scouts collected over 66,000 lbs. of food, and hope to top that number as food pantries have indicated they have a greater demand this year. The food collection is done in mid-March to restock the shelves of food pantries who will provide food during the summer months when kids who get free meals at school will be on summer break.
