Cupcakes and crafts sale benefits cat rescue [Clarksville]

Death by Chocolate is this month's featured gourmet cupcake at the Howard County Cat Club craft and bake sale at Giant in Clarksville on Oct. 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. It looks like a yummy way to go.

They will have many other home-baked goods, cat-themed T-shirts, including some tie dye, and handmade jewelry. Your purchase will help the kitties.

"The Odd Couple," Oscar and Felix in the male version or Olive and Florence in the female version, will keep you laughing at River Hill High School this month. There are only 16 actors in the cast — Kyle McKee, Sanjay Mysore, Cailean Hawke, RJ Skapura, Sam Ehrlich, Jake Daly, Amanda Bachman, Erin Hill, Kelly Wruck, Amanda Yuan, Carly Hirsh, Stephanie Amouk, Kayla Clark, Caroline Parisien, Patrick Mikulis and Colin Altman.

There is a crew of more than 30 dedicated students led by student stage manager David London with direction and assistance from Joe Blasko, George Stone and Bob Bost. River Hill math teacher Rhonda De La Mar and parent volunteers coordinate costumes.

Assisting as student directors are Thaddeus Harold, Rebecca Snyder, Brianna Costabile, Sarah Tossman and Shannon Groves.

Performance times and dates for the male version are Oct. 22 aand 24 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. The female version is scheduled for Oct. 23 and 25 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. Box office opens 90 minutes before curtain.  Consider a special offer. Purchase two tickets at the same time — one for each version and the total cost will be only $20.

The annual PTA coat collection ends Oct. 24. Coats, jackets, hats, gloves and other winter items in all sizes and in good clean condition are needed.

The third annual RHHS Boosters 5K and Family Fun Run is set for Oct. 25. Bring the whole family. The 5K/3.1 mile cross-country course begins and ends at the stadium. There is a 1-mile walk/run and kids' 50-yard dash. Early-bird registration is $25 online or mail-in. Registration on race day is $30.

Joyce Ebersol Ludy enjoyed a birthday week treat. Carole, Kim and Madison (Maddie) Ebersol came from Columbia, Mo., for a visit. Maddie, almost 5, kept everyone imaginatively entertained from early morning until bedtime. Spending time with family and friends and seeing the sights through new eyes can be a wonderful treat.

Margaret Walton stopped by for a brief visit and advised everyone to be on the alert for unsolicited peddlers. Keep your doors locked at all times and do not open for those you do not know. Being friendly can be a costly mistake. The times they are a-changing.
