Computer upgrade leaves events and news to rely on hard copy [Clarksville]

Well, I did it. I finally upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10. They said everything would transfer. It didn't. Documents from 2014 and 2015 were saved and transferred. Needed documents from 2016 in the process of being worked on, have disappeared. If your information is gone, I'm sorry. Here's what I could piece back together mainly from hard copy.

The next big event in town will be the 138th annual Clarksville picnic on the grounds of St. Louis church Saturday, June 25. Though much of the familiar will remain, there will also be some interesting changes.

This summer the dinner of fried chicken, pulled pork, succotash, cole slaw, cucumbers, baked beans, applesauce and rolls will be served buffet style. Carry-out dinners are also an option at $15. The cost for the adult buffet is $15; for children ages 5-10 it's $6. Children under 5 eat free. If you just want yummy fried chicken, that's no problem. You can get a bucket of fried chicken with 10 pieces/$10 or 20 pieces/$20.

In addition to the buffet and entertainment, there is always plenty of other food, Bingo, a silent auction, raffles, midway games, pony rides, white elephant sales and much more. Parking is free, but if you live nearby you can always walk. Those traveling a greater distance might want to carpool to make room for others. Many travel quite some distance for the picnic. This includes out-of-town and out-of-state guests.

I love a parade. Do you love a parade? The 17th annual River Hill Independence Day Parade is a summer treat for those who participate actively in the parade and for spectators who catch a glimpse of friends and neighbors passing by. Get your group together to march, ride decorated bikes, provide music or decorate a float. Providing music will make you a sure-fire hit. If you're going to march/walk the parade route along Great Star Drive be aware that the route is about two miles long and the final mile is uphill. You need stamina, but it's worth the effort.
