Krisana Goel is in 8th grade at Clarksville Middle School. She, along with Anjali Mahadevia and Anjali Shroff, both in 11th grade at Atholton High School, Sashi Rai in ninth grade at River Hill High School, and Leena Rai, in fifth grade at Pointers Run, founded an organization called South Asian Girls Education (S.A.G.E.) to change lives through education for girls.
SAGE is sponsoring a fundraiser on Friday, May 30, from 7 to 11 p.m., at Ten Oaks Ballroom, with the "Girl Rising" Howard County Premiere. The film tells the stories of nine girls in nine countries by nine celebrated writers and narrated by nine celebrities. Proceeds go to the Global India and Girl Rising Fund. The cost is $60 for adults and $45 for children 17 and under.

Congratulations to Clarksville Middle students Kat Graf and Michelle Lui on successful competition at the state level. They will move to National History Day Competition in June competing in the Junior Group Performance category with their project, "The Unjust Verdict: The Blanck and Harris Trial." Good luck or, should we say, "Break a leg?"
Janet Jagdhani was bubbling over with enthusiasm when we met shortly before the Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts and Clarksville Middle School presentation of "Annie Jr.," which was to include Janet and David Jagdhani's daughter Nila Jagdhani in the cast of nearly 40 students.
The production under director-choreographer Kassidy Sharp, musical director Doug Lawler, stage manager Allie Rocco, technical director Cree Menefee, technical assistant Gabby Castillo, house manager Alex Franco and production assistants Will McCorn, Eileen Jones and Sarah Winchell was sure to be a hit.
The Atholton Athletic Boosters will hold the annual Golf Outing at Fairway HIlls Golf Club in Columbia on Friday, June 6. All proceeds will benefit student athletes at AHS. The event is a best ball, scramble format with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The cost is $110 per golfer and includes food, two adult beverages, soft drinks, prizes and give-aways.

Congratulations to River Hill student Melissa Lopez Rueda, who was among several HCPSS Applications and Research Lab students to qualify for nationals in the SkillsUSA competition. Melissa won a gold medal for Restaurant Service, Hotel and Restaurant Management Academy.
Puja Parmar earned the University Honors Citation in a recent ceremony in the Memorial Chapel on the University of Maryland's College Park campus. The Honors Citation signifies the successful completion of honors course work, which includes honors seminars, special honors versions of introductory courses and a first year colloquium. The University of Maryland's Honors College is a highly selective, nationally recognized academic program for talented undergraduates.
Puja will be doing a summer internship at Northrup Grummond. She plans to graduate next May with a major in Finance and Operations Management.
Suraj Parmar is graduating from River Hill this year and has been accepted to the University of Maryland Clarks School of Engineering. Suraj will be doing a summer internship at the Applied Physics Lab.

There's still time to get your team together for the Relay for Life of Western Howard County to be held at the Western Regional Park June 13 and 14. The overnight walk-a-thon raised over $145,000 in 2012 and 2013 for the American Cancer Society. Plan to attend and participate.
