Join Clarksville Elementary in birthday celebration [Clarksville]

Clarksville Elementary is planning a great big birthday celebration on April 25.

Are you an alumnus? Would you like to share your childhood memories with current CES students? If you are interested, contact CES by phone or email to get more details. They would love to hear from you.

The birthday celebration is at 2:30 p.m. A DJ will provide entertainment until 4 p.m.

There will be wellness tents set up on the blacktop, including Whole Foods, Eat the Rainbow, Dental Health, Yoga, Going Green and Giving Back/Charity.

The Giving Back/Charity tent will be collecting used shoes for FUNDS2ORG, an organization that helps provide jobs to people living in poverty stricken countries by selling and re-purposing our used and unwanted shoes. The CES goal is 100 bags of shoes, but they would be happy to collect even more.

Bring your shoes to the CES birthday celebration on April 25. If you cannot make it on that date, drop them off at the school at an earlier date. Spring cleaning is getting easier and more rewarding by the minute, isn't it? We may feel sad to just toss stuff in the trash. It's so much more satisfying to be able to use our unwanted items to help others.

The celebration includes a Fun Run/Walk at 1 p.m. with sign-in at 12:30 p.m. Register through April 15. You only need to register if you are doing the Fun Run/Walk. All other birthday and wellness activities are open without registration. Plan to come join in the CES birthday celebration on April 25.

The River Hill High Cheer Clinic is scheduled for April 18, 9 a.m. until noon, in the RHHS cafeteria. The clinic is open to boys and girls currently in grades 3-8. Participants will have fun learning with RHHS cheerleaders. A snack is included.

Dayton Oaks Elementary is thrilled to have seven teams of fifth graders participating in the Battle of the Books sponsored by the Howard County Library System. The Battle is a book trivia contest open to all fifth grade students who have read 16 books selected by children's librarians and school media specialists.

The 250 county-wide teams will compete on April 10 simultaneously at five locations. Dayton Oaks teams will compete at Howard High. Good luck.

Congratulations to Ben Vitek and Ellie Hasagawa, who had artwork hung at the Miller Branch Library recently.

Aiden Kristo, Merina Billey and Madeline D'Antuono have artwork hanging at the Howard County Center for the Arts until April 25. Take a look if you can.

The Robinson Nature Center Butterfly Gala is April 11, 6:30-9 a.m. The Howard County Therapeutics Division and Robinson Nature Center especially invite families of children and adults with special needs to join in an evening of sensory-friendly activities celebrating spring. The Butterfly Gala is for all ages.

Are you doing spring cleaning and clearing out stuff from the garage, basement and other storage spaces? If you found a good usable bike that you no longer use, don't just put it in the trash. Take that bike, even if the tires are flat, to Linden-Linthicum United Methodist Church on April 12 from noon until 3 p.m. The bikes collected will provide much needed transportation for others less fortunate. You might also choose to make a cash donation to help cover the cost of shipping.

This is your last call to enjoy the Atholton Athletic Boosters Aloha Luau Bull Roast on April 17, 6:30-11 p.m. Tickets are $60. Go to http://www.atholtonboosters.org/athletics/boosters/events/bull-roast to make your purchase.
