Join the firefighters for season's last country breakfast [Clarksville]

Come and get it. The last country breakfast of the season will be served by the Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department on March 24 from 8 a.m. until noon in the Ten Oaks Ballroom at the fire station near the intersection of Routes 108 and 32.

The volunteers really appreciated the great crowd at the February breakfast and they look forward to seeing you on March 24. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, scrapple, biscuits and gravy, apple sauce, breakfast beverages and all the trimmings to send you home happily filled.


Tickets are available at the door for $9/adult, $8/seniors 55-plus, $5 for kids ages 5 to 10 and free for children under age 5.

If you miss the March 24 country breakfast, you'll have to wait until September for the next one.


The weekend of March 23 and 24 is filled with possibilities. Here are a few reminders.

HC Drug Free and River Hill High School Bands are partnering to stage RHHStival 2013, a county-wide youth music competition to be held in the school auditorium and dining center from 6 to 11 p.m. March 23.

Folks at Linden-Linthicum shared the church schedule for Holy Week services. There will be a Holy Thursday service at 7 p.m. March 28 and a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. March 29. Easter Sunday services will be held at 6, 7:45, 9 and 10:30 a.m. All are cordially invited to attend.

Good things are always happening at Clarksville Middle School. Recently Principal Melissa Shindel had the privilege of introducing student Savannah White during the opening session of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Savannah wowed the audience of 500 guests as she sang an Italian aria. Principal Shindel notes that Savannah was amazing.

CMS student Jennifer Zhang was runner-up in the county's 2013 STEM Fair. Jennifer reported on the Effect of the Number of Edges a Parachute has on the Fall Time.


Nick Torre is the 2012-2013 CMS winner of the Geography Bee. Next Nick goes to state competition. Nick was also one of the History Day winners and will be going to county finals.

Megan Rabe represented CMS in the Howard County Spelling Bee competition at Reservoir High.

It was a team effort for future civil engineers Tim Lin, Rahul Reddy, Joseph Lui and Niloy Gupta. The students beat out 30 adult engineering companies to take home the award for Most Creative Golf Hole at the American Society of Civil Engineers annual charity golf tournament. The task was to create a Baltimore city transportation themed golf hole. You will be able to see their golf hole displayed at the Enrichment Fair in May.
