River Hill High choral singers will lift their voices [Clarksville]

Musically talented kids are counting on your support. There will be a fundraising River Hill High School choral concert at Abiding Savior Church in Columbia on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.

The evening also includes a silent auction. The choir will be under the direction of River Hill's new vocal teacher Richard McCready. Funds raised will help pay for the April trip to Orlando, Fla., for the Heritage World Festival. Your support is appreciated.

Is there a fresh cut Christmas tree in your house? It is probably no longer fresh. As needles begin dropping rapidly, the fire hazard increases just as rapidly. Don't keep it too long and don't let it clog the landfill.

Howard County government wants you to Merry Mulch your tree now through Jan 16. Remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel, the tree stand and anything else not organic.

Next, take it to Kendall Hardware at 12260 Route 108 or River Hill Garden Center at 12165 Route 108 to be converted into useful mulch. These are our closest drop-off sites. They are open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This program has kept thousands of trees out of the landfill since it began in 1993. Do your part to save money and the environment.

Best wishes are being sent to Randy Walton for a speedy recovery from surgery. He and the family appreciate all the prayers and support from friends and neighbors. Having a good support system always seems to hasten healing.

There are lots of interesting new programs and classes coming to Howard County libraries in the new year. Be sure to check out what's available and of interest to your family.

They say that time flies when you're having fun. For me, it also seems to fly when not having fun. If you have a great fear of dentists, stop reading now.

In the past, I've had a few painless root canals. This one is not in that category. After over two hours of diligent digging, one root canal was cleared of old dead nerve cells. The other old dead nerve had calcified and was undetectable, but needs to come out to avoid future problems. Some kind of medicine is now packed in there in hopes of softening the nerve tissue so it can be removed in a few weeks. My brain has been totally focused on that tooth for the past week and I'm too stoic to take pain pills.

I hope the next few weeks will be better for all of us.
