Howard referendum advocates form LLC focused on government transparency

A group of Howard County citizens active in promoting referendum rights and voter awareness in the county has formed its own limited liability company.

Named The People's Voice, the LLC was founded "to assist with local government transparency to provide citizens with easy access to information they need to get involved in their community and analyze political candidates," according to Lisa Markovitz, a former Democratic candidate for County Council and leader of Citizens Working to Fix Howard County, the referendum group.

The LLC has a base on the Internet at EthicsBallot.org, where members can access PDFs of campaign finance reports for county races. Markovitz said the group will also send out members-only newsletters "that will explain, in plain language, legislative and zoning plans of the County Council."

The group plans to endorse candidates of any party "who show a prioritization of community interests over special interests" by awarding them the title of "Ethics Star," a plaudit that comes with a lavender star logo that the candidate can use on his or her campaign material, according to Markovitz.
