Two dead after single-vehicle crash in Woodbine

Two people were killed Friday evening after a single-vehicle crash in Woodbine.

According to Howard County Police, John Ruben Graybeal, 22, of Jennings Chapel Road in Woodbine, was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta southwest on Daisy Road in Woodbine.

Graybeal was unable to negotiate a curve in the road, which caused the vehicle to leave the road and hit a tree, according to police.

A passenger in the car, Leah Christine McElgunn, 20, of Meyers Drive, Catonsville, was also killed.

According to a police press release, excessive speed is thought to be the cause of the crash. Both Graybeal and McElgunn were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and police say it does not appear alcohol was involved.

Daisey Road in Woodbine was closed to thru traffic until 11 p.m. as part of the collision investigation.
