The Howard County Public School System's chief operating officer Camille Jones is on administrative leave, her executive assistant Valerie Willis confirmed Tuesday.The chief operating officer reports directly to the school's deputy superintendent Linda Wise and manages school construction, technology, transportation, purchasing and other area.John White, the school system's communications director, said he could not disclose why Jones was placed on administrative leave because it was a "personnel matter."Administrative leave with pay relieves the employee of specified responsibilities but allows them to keep their regular compensation package. It is not a disciplinary action, according to the Board of Education's employee conduct and discipline policy."The Superintendent/Designee may place an employee on administrative leave with pay when it is determined to be in the best interest of the HCPSS," according to policy.This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
