Balt. Co. man convicted in Elkridge massage parlor robbery

A Parkville man was convicted by a Howard County jury Friday in the September 2013 robbery of an Elkridge massage parlor.

Antoine M. Dyson, 33, of the 6800 block of Sturbridge Drive, was found guilty of three counts of robbery and additional charges after a two-day trial that concluded Thursday.

Police said Dyson and his partner, Andre Julius Hairston, robbed Oriental Spa, in the 6300 block of Washington Boulevard, on Sept. 3, 2013. The pair are also implicated in the robbery of Silk Spa in Jessup.

Hairston, who has been convicted in both robberies and sentenced to 10 years, testified that Dyson was not involved in the robbery, according to State's Attorney spokesman Wayne Kirwan.

Hairston said Dyson went in for a massage and that he decided to rob the spa while waiting in the car. The prosecution argued that Dyson was involved and pointed to video surveillance that showed Dyson casing the building's exterior, Kirwan said.

The prosecution also produced text messages between the pair, which Kirwan said suggested they were working together.

Howard County Circuit Court Judge Richard Bernhardt revoked Dyson's bond and set a sentencing date of Jan. 15.

Dyson will be tried for the Silk Spa robbery on Jan. 7.
