Kittleman's Planning Board appointment shouldn't be viewed as contest [Letter]

Recently, there have been factual errors stated in news articles and blog posts about Allan Kittleman's appointment of Susan Garber to the Planning Board, particularly regarding Josh Tzuker's term not being over, when it actually is already expired. Kittleman has not "ousted" Tzuker (Zoning Digest, June 4). His appointment filled a vacancy in March of 2010, and he was re-appointed to a full five-year term in May of 2010 which expired in May of 2015. This is a typical County Executive appointment to fill an expired term. Whether you prefer Tzuker or Garber is irrelevant. This isn't an election between the two.

Susan Garber is utterly qualified for the post, whether or not one agrees with her positions. I am particularly frustrated by those predicting the Council will "hold a grudge" and even imply they should, since Garber has occasionally expressed frustration with their decisions. What a lack of faith in the Council this assumes. One should hope they also remember when she has praised them.

My goodness, are we to expect the Council will not confirm the County Executive's appointments for political reasons, or worse, personal ones? Let's hope not.
