Courtney Watson is choice for county executive [Letter]

Courtney Watson is the right person to build on the phenomenal accomplishments of Ken Ulman's years as Howard County Executive. She is a compassionate, principled, and skilled leader of strong character. Courtney is a strong supporter of affordable housing, including the downtown Columbia; enhanced programs for seniors and minority businesses; a woman's right to choose; Maryland Gun Safety Act, minimum wage bill, and the Dream Act; and fully funding education and Pre K.

In contrast, her opponent, Allan Kittleman, has taken positions on issues that differ from his record. According to the MarylandReporter, he believes his Senate record is irrelevant to his run for County Executive. Let's look at his record:

1. Kittleman says that the right to choose "issue is a private matter between a woman and her doctor and I do not think government has a role in that decision." (MarylandReporter August 26, 2014 and September 3, 2014.) Yet he sponsored bills in 2013 (SB427) and 2011 (SB426) to require doctors to report abortions.

2. He opposed the Dream Act.

3. He opposed the Minimum Wage Bill.

4. In 2013, he sponsored a bill (SB670) to repeal the corporate income tax.

5. He voted against the Maryland Gun Safety Act.

6. He opposed the Howell Funeral home, an African American business, locating in Howard County, (ZB1025m 2003). With Democrat votes, Howell is now operating in Howard County.
