Attack ads are eye-openers for recent college graduate [Letter]

As a recent college graduate, I felt like I finally had time to get a chance to be involved in politics and work alongside politicians I admire. In the past, I had seen negative television commercials about candidates, but I thought all the accusations were true, because these were our potential leaders, and I did not think they would lie.

However, as this campaign has progressed I have had my eyes opened. I am disappointed by the mudslinging in this election, especially the horrible things said about Gail Bates.

I know firsthand the offensive things said about her are not true. I guess I was rather naive to believe politicians really had their community's needs at heart. Now I realize that politicians will say anything to get elected. Attacking other candidates tells me nothing about their own points of view or their opinions on issues important to me, and others.

I am thankful there is at least one politician, Gail Bates, who can get votes on her own merit and show that she cares about her community, without knocking others down. I wish other politicians were more like her. Now that I have had this opportunity and have seen the nasty game that is politics firsthand, I hope elections become more positive with my generation and we begin to see candidates stand on their own virtue in future elections.
