Taking parkland for a school [Letter]

I would like to comment on Chris Jones’ [letter] from Oct. 26 (“Using parkland for the newest high school,” Letters).

Long Reach High School was never on park land from what I can find. The property was used as a park but belonged to Board of Education to build a high school on.

If the county should push to put the 13th high school at Rockburn Park, the entrance would be across from Ruxton Drive and a bridge would have to be built to go over a creek and wetlands that will be disturbed at a cost of over $3 million.

Montgomery Road at this section will not handle the traffic of school buses, especially if there are after school activities, such as football games, baseball games, plays all letting out at the same time that games at Rockburn Park are letting out.

Rockburn Park should not be taken for a school since the Mission Road site is already in the Howard County Public Schools system and once parkland is taken, it is gone. With this site it would not be replaced.
