A Laurel man, whose DNA was found on a steering wheel of a stolen vehicle in January, was sentenced to 20 years jail on Thursday, according to the Howard County state’s attorney’s office.
Preston Harrison, 29, pleaded guilty in July to carjacking.
Howard County Circuit Court Judge William V. Tucker suspended all but five years of Harrison’s sentence. Tucker also ordered Harrison to have a psychological evaluation and treatment as well as a drug and alcohol evaluation, testing and treatment, the prosecutor’s office announced.
On Jan. 27, an Uber ride-share service driver took a customer to the Valencia Motel, on Washington Boulevard.
As the driver was waiting for the passenger to come back into the car, a man — later identified as Harrison — threatened the driver and pushed him out of the moving vehicle, before driving away and striking vehicles on Washington Boulevard, according to county prosecutors.
Harrison’s defense attorney could not be reached.
