The Ellicott City Soccer Club will host a clinic for children with special needs at Chapelgate Christian Academy from 3:30-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. ECSC coaches and players will run the clinic, which is a precursor to a more comprehensive program planned for the spring of 2015.

Volleyball

East Coast Elite Volleyball will hold tryouts in Cooksville in early November. The team advanced to Nationals in Minneapolis in its inaugural season last year. The tryouts will be preceded by an open gym with a chance to meet coaches and returning players during two hours of drills. Open gym: Nov. 2, 2-4 p.m. (14s and 15); 4-6 p.m. (16s, 17s and 18s). The Marriotts Ridge High School Boosters 10th Annual Mustang 5K Stampede & 1-Mile Pony Trot will be held Saturday, Oct. 25 at 9 a.m., rain or shine. For more information go to mrhs-boosters.com/stampede. Pre-registration is $25 and race day registration is $30. The run starts and ends on the MRHS track.

The Howard County Striders will host a youth cross country meet at Centennial High on Sunday, Oct. 19. Registration ($5) begins on site at 11:30 a.m., course walks begin at 12:45 p.m. and races begin at 1:30 p.m. Kids born 2008 and after will run a 1k, if born in 2006 or 2007 they will run a 2k, if born 2002- 2005 they will run a 3k and if born in 2000 or 2001 they will run a 4k.
