Mt. Hebron and Long Reach still unbeaten in county field hockey play

Long Reach 7, Wilde Lake 3

Jess Bates had three goals and Sadie McClelland, Cloe Dixon and Lillie Miller had one each as Long Reach defeated Wilde Lake to remain unbeaten in county play.

Eileen Mee got Wilde Lake's scoring started. Brittany Kuntz had a goal and two assists. Lauren Comeaux had the other Wildecat goal.

"It was a great offensive game on both teams' part," said Wilde Lake coach Samantha McElvaney. "Long Reach capitalized by pressuring the defensive 16-yard restarts."

"Wilde Lake kept us on our toes," said Long Reach coach Rashmi Bhanot. "Our attack and midfield did a great job of keeping us in the game."

The Lightning midfield was led by Lillie Miller. Other key players were McClelland and Patricia Anderson.

Wilde Lake's Shaelyn Cavanaugh had a great defensive save in the game.

Caleigh Covell scored with 4:44 left to play as River Hill edged Howard, 1-0. Covell was assisted by Emily Hamburger.

Howard got into its offensive circle but could not get the ball across the goal line.

Glenelg Country 6, Annapolis Area Christian 0

It's been nearly two weeks since the Glenelg Country School team has taken the field for a real game. The tournament the Dragons were supposed to play in was cancelled and last week's game against Seton Keough was postponed due to weather.

The long layoff didn't hurt the Dragons' offense, however.

Tessa More knocked in a loose all near the cage to start what became a 6-0 shutout.

Glenelg Country dominated the game in offensive opportunities. The Dragons outshot AACS, 37-2, and had a 17-2 advantage on offensive penalty corners.

More had three goals in the game. Lauren Smith, Julia Sheehan and Gabi Hernandez also scored. It was the first varsity goal for both Sheehan and Hernandez.

The Glenelg County defense, led by seniors Mallory Pappas and Gillie Lynch as well as freshman Tokunbo Olanyian, left little for keeper Kelly Johnson (two saves) to do.

Rachel Day had four goals and an assist and Jaimie Cardea had a goal and three assists as Atholton easily defeated Centennial.

Bel Air 2, Reservoir 1 (OT)

Stephanie Roth scored and Connie Chung made 20 saves, but Reservoir lost to Bel Air, 2-1, in overtime.
