NAACP Youth Council sponsors 'Fighting the Hunger'

The Howard County NAACP Youth Council sponsored its third Fighting the Hunger event Sunday, Nov. 24, at Ridgley's Run Community Center in Jessup.

"This is our way of giving back to the community by providing a meal, clothing, shoes, blankets, toiletries and can food for the less fortunate, homeless and seniors," said Kaila Hall, president of the Howard Count NAACP Youth Council and a senior at Howard High School.

Hall said approximately 150 people were served a meal of "turkey, ham, stuffing, gravy, mash potatoes, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, green beans and lots of desserts."

Those in attendance also could select clothing and other items that Hall said were donated by "youth council members, advisors, co-advisors, parents, local community citizens, businesses, politicians, family and friends."

Members of the youth council sorted the clothing, packed the can goods and toiletries and also helped serve the meal. Some members also participated in the entertainment portion of the event.

"Those in attendance were very, very thankful and appreciative," Hall said.
