An Ellicott City man faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly fired a rifle at his wife during an argument at their home in Ellicott City.
William R. Kelley, 58, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of reckless endangerment and first- and second-degree assault.
According to court documents, Howard County police were called to the 3100 block of Rogers Avenue in Ellicott City around 5:47 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 for a report of domestic violence. When officers arrived, they initially went to another home, believing it to be Kelley's residence. After hearing and seeing a gunshot nearby, officers found Kelley's home.
Police arrested Kelley shortly afterward.
Speaking with police, the victim said that she and her husband had been arguing since Thursday of that week, court documents state, and continued to argue that day in their home's screened-in porch.
She told police that Kelley went inside and came back, holding a rifle, stood at the door a few feet away and fired a shot at her, according to court documents.
She also told police she grabbed the rifle out of Kelley's hands and then called her father, who called police. Court papers state Kelley called the victim's mother and said he was going to kill her daughter.
Kelley was taken to the county jail, where he is being held without bond.
