Howard County construction projects will close some roads

Two Howard County constructions projects, on Court Avenue in Ellicott City and near Centennial Park,  will impact traffic with some road closures this month.

A project to repair an existing wall supporting Court Avenue has begun its second phase, following the stabilization of the wall. Other repairs will also be made to the road and sidewalk. The work is expected to be completed by May 20.

While Court Avenue leading to Main Street will be closed to traffic, pedestrians can still get access to the area. The school bus stop on the corner of Court Avenue and Main Street will not be affected. Signs have been posted to advise motorists of the construction as well as a detour.

A construction project to improve the sewer system near Centennial Park in Ellicott City is scheduled to begin around May 18, according to county officials.

The installation of new equipment includes 250 linear feet of 8-inch sewer from the Centennial Park South entrance across Maryland Route 108 to Ten Mills Road, as well as 1,960 linear feet of sewer force main, 2,550 linear feet of water main and two submersible sewer pumping stations in Centennial Park.

Due to construction, the southbound lane of Ten Mills Road near Centennial Park will have temporary shoulder and lane closures and shifts.

In addition, the Centennial Park roadway, sidewalks, pathways, extended parking areas, playground, general store and boat rental office, water fountains and restrooms may close as needed. Flags will be posted to direct traffic during construction hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The project is tentatively expected to be completed by September.
