Ravens' Michael Campanaro returns to River Hill for toy drive

A Toys for Tots collection at River Hill High School has a homegrown celebrity -- and a Ravens connection -- behind the campaign.

Michael Campanaro, a River Hill football standout who played four years at Wake Forest University and is a first-year wide receiver/return specialist for the Baltimore Ravens, will help kick off a Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign at River Hill on Friday, Nov. 14, from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. The event will be followed by a high school football playoff game between River Hill and Reservoir.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be collected. Campanaro will sign autographs and memorabilia for those who donate toys or make a monetary donation to Toys for Tots. Two Ravens cheerleaders also will attend and sign autographs and pose for photos, and the Adams Jeep of Maryland Super Bowl Rock Crusher Sahara Edition Wrangler will be on display.

The Toys for Tots campaign collects donations through October and November, and delivers toys to those in need.

"The message of hope for a better future resonates with me, and I chose my hometown high school as the perfect venue to rally my community and accelerate the donations to this important and impactful cause," Campanaro said in a statement. "I consider myself extremely fortunate to be chasing my National Football League dream in my home state. With the holidays approaching, now is the time to focus on those less fortunate that live all around us and to offer our financial and emotional support. My family and I look forward to a strong showing of support."
