Howard County police said Wednesday they are investigating six cable thefts reported by Verizon between June 12 and 22 throughout western Howard County.
Verizon reported six thefts at the poles, which began at 11:09 a.m. June 12 in the 5000 block of Ten Oaks Road in Dayton. Other cable thefts were reported at 10:44 a.m. June 16 in the 2600 block of Hobbs Road in Glenwood; 10:36 a.m. June 17 in the 12500 block of Triadelphia Road in Ellicott City; 8:30 p.m. June 20 in the 14200 block of Forsythe Road in Sykesville; 8 a.m. June 21 on Route 97 at MacClintock Drive in Glenwood; and 8 a.m. June 21 on Ten Oaks Road at Brighton Dam Road in Clarksville.
"The department has an ongoing investigation into these and is looking into the possibility they may be related," department spokeswoman Lori Boone said. "The thefts are of Verizon property, not technically at residences."
Verizon representative John O'Malley said they learned of the thefts from trouble reports in the area that monitor cable activity.
"We're currently working with local law enforcement and our own security personnel to investigate," O'Malley said.
As the investigation continues, Boone said the department asks residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
