Two rescued from Ellicott City apartment fire

Two residents with service dogs were rescued from their Ellicott City apartment on Thursday evening after an apartment below them caught fire.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, firefighters and paramedics from Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services were dispatched to Town & Country Apartments located 8900 block of Town & Country Boulevard near the Howard County and Baltimore County line, according to a HCDFRS news release.

Initial reports by callers reported residents trapped and hanging out the window in an apartment above the fire.

Accompanied by units from Baltimore County, Howard County units found heavy smoke billowing from the ground floor apartment, which was where the fire was located, according to the release.

Firefighters assisted the two residents, who were not injured, through the interior stairwell. It took approximately 20 minutes for firefighters to get the fire under control, according to the release.

No firefighters were injured, according to the release.

The news release states one apartment is expected to be declared uninhabitable, and that two displaced residents are being relocated to another apartment in the complex.  Several other apartments sustained minor smoke damage, the release said.
