A 28-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of Joseph Steven Gibbons Friday night in Lothian, Anne Arundel police said.
Andrew Thomas Morgan, of Elkridge, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as various gun-related charges, police said Monday. Morgan was taken into custody with assistance from Howard County police Sunday night at his home.
As of Monday morning, Morgan was being held at Jennifer Road Detention Center in Parole with no bail, a jail representative said.
Police responded to the area of Margarita Street and Tequila Straight Drive around 9:22 p.m. Friday where they found Gibbons, 21, of Churchton, showing "obvious signs of trauma."
Gibbons was determined to be dead at the scene. The 21-year-old's body was taken to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, which found Gibbons' death to be a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Police interviewed numerous witnesses and followed up on tips received on the police's tip line.
Through the course of the investigation, police were able to identify Morgan as a suspect. The investigation revealed that Morgan has ties to Anne Arundel and Lothian, police said.
