Pure Wine Cafe: Best Wine Tasting and Best Tapas/Small Plates

Some nights are just made for a glass of wine, a bite to eat and great conversation. Those are the nights created for a trip to Pure Wine Cafe, Historic Ellicott City's gem of a wine bar and restaurant.

Pure’s wine list is an intriguing mix of Old World and New World varieties With 30 wines available by the glass and 80 by the bottle, the list spans well-known wine regions (think California, France and Australia) to locales that are lesser known but sommelier favorites, like Macedonia.

“We believe it is our job to find new, interesting and fun wines on an ongoing basis,” says owner PJ Strain; Pure’s list evolves on a weekly basis, so regulars can always try something new.

The kitchen is seasonally driven, preparing a couple of entrées and a variety of small plates — from gourmet tacos (braised jackfruit with cucumber salsa, anyone?) to carefully selected charcuterie. A few cheeses, maybe a bit of prosciutto and a glass of vino under the stars on Pure’s stone patio overlooking Main Street? That’s how memories are made.
