The owners of a new U.S. 40 bakery want to introduce local diners to authentic Indian desserts and snacks.

Sridhar Mandava and his wife, Ramya Makkapati, opened Cake Wala opened in September, offering custom cakes and pastries in addition to sandwiches, burgers and traditional Indian snacks.

The couple, who also own Indian restaurant Paradise Biryani Pointe in Catonsville, came to the U.S. from India in 2005.

“We wanted to open a shop that shows the community here what Indian baking is all about and share the flavors of what it’s like to go to a bakery in our home country,” Mandava says.
