Police charge Columbia man with secretly videotaping women

Howard County Police arrested a Columbia man late Thursday night and charged him with secretly videotaping two women inside the bedrooms and bathroom of their Ellicott City condominium.

Michael Stephen McKenny, 42, of the 10000 block of Hickory Ridge Road, was arrested without incident and charged with multiple counts of burglary, visual surveillance with prurient intent and videotaping a person in a private residence without consent, according to a news release.

The arrest came the same day police released to the public images and video of a man setting up the cameras.

Following the release of the video, police said they received multiple tips identifying McKenny as a suspect. McKenny was arrested at his Columbia residence after police seized "undisclosed evidence" from both his car and home.

Police said investigators believe McKenny knew the two women and used a copied key to their condo, located in the 8300 block of Montgomery Road, to repeatedly enter the condo during daytime hours and move the camera between the two bedrooms and the bathroom.

Police said one of the women called the police after finding the camera in her bedroom closet in September.

On the camera, police found footage of two other, unidentified women inside a residential bathroom. Police said the footage was unrelated to the images from the Ellicott City condo, and that the two additional women have since been identified and notified of the footage.

McKenny is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.

Police said detectives will continue investigating to determine if other victims were recorded without their knowledge. Anyone with information should call police at 410-313-3200.
