Marriotts Ridge's Thornton leads charge into state tennis semifinals

River Hill's Nick Zhu and partner Prateek Swamykumar have advanced to the second day of the state tennis tournament.

College Park, MD — After winning both the boys singles and girls singles state titles last year, Howard County will have a smaller footprint on the state tennis landscape in 2014.

Marriotts Ridge freshman Abby Thornton, and River Hill's boys doubles team of Nick Zhu and Prateek Swamykumar were the only entries from Howard County still standing after the first two rounds on Friday.
