College sports
The countywide NCAA Night, sponsored by the Howard County Office of Student Services, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at Long Reach High School. The event is a must for all local athletes considering playing a sport in college, and will teach athletes how to prepare for eligibility with instruction from college administrators and former college athletes. High school coaches are also encouraged to attend.
Baseball
The regular meeting of Talkin' Baseball will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. at Brighton Gardens in Columbia. The speaker will be Fran Zimniuch, who will discuss his book "Baseball's New Frontier: A History of Expansion, 1961-1998." Call 410-740-1145 for more information.
Volleyball
The jkVolleyball camp, for ages 9-18, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 1 at the Volleyball House. Sign up now at jkvolleyball.com
Running
The Athletes Serving Athletes 5K & Kids Halloween Hustle will be held Sunday, Oct. 27 at Goucher College. More than 25 athletes living with disabilities and representing Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County will be competing in jogging chairs in addition to runners of all ages and abilities. The event will also feature traditional Halloween fun: face painting, crafts, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting and more. Those who can not attend are asked to register as a "Ghost Runner" to cover the cost of an athlete in need who will cross the finish line at no cost. Register today at http://www.asa5k.com.
