With Howard County schools closed for the second straight day on Friday, the schedules for the boys and girls basketball region playoffs, along with that for the wrestling state tournament, have once again had to be adjusted.
All the basketball games involving Howard County teams that were scheduled for Friday have now been pushed to Saturday. Both the boys and the girls tournaments are through to the sectional final round of region play.
Four Howard County boys teams — Centennial, Oakland Mills, Reservoir and River Hill — and four Howard County girls teams — Atholton, Glenelg, Mt. Hebron and Oakland Mills — are still alive in their respective regions. For the full updated schedule of games for Saturday, see below.
As for the state wrestling tournament, which was supposed to kick off on Friday, everything has been pushed back a day. According to the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association website, the current schedule for Saturday is to have 7 a.m. team check-in, 8 a.m. weigh-ins and then the preliminary round of bouts begin at 9:30 a.m. The semifinals are scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and the final round of the night, the consolation semifinals, are scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
The second day of the tournament will be on Monday at University of Maryland's Cole Field House, with the consolation finals at 4:30 p.m. and the championship finals at 7 p.m.
It also has been announced by the MPSSAA that, "in accordance with NFHS rules, wrestlers are now afforded a two-pound weight allowance (108 lbs. becomes 110, 115 lbs. becomes 117)" for both days of the tournament.
