River Hill football wins 30th straight game, 33-0, at Wilde Lake

COLUMBIA, MD — River Hill won its 30th consecutive fotball game Friday night on the rain-soaked turf at Wilde Lake, 33-0. The Hawks outgained the Wildecats in yards rushing, 250 to 54, even after losing running backs Kalonji Moore and Chris Galloway to injuries on the first series.

Cyrus Vaughn led River Hill with 95 rushing yards on nine carries.

"We knew we had to step up. We ran our best, we knew we couldn't fumble, double tuck everything," Vaughn said. "I knew if I was going to get it I had to make the best of it, and the best came out right there."

Cory Daniel rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns, and intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a third score, and River Hill quarterback Drew Pritchard scored twice on short runs.

Wilde Lake quartertback Spencer Ampofo completed 11 of his 32 pass attempts for 135 yards, including five to Malik Jackson for 68 yards, but River Hill's Dominic Costabile, Charlie McLaughlin and Daniel intercepted passes to thwart the Wildecats (3-3).

"I'm excited about our defense. This is a high-powered offense, they spread the ball out, they've got two great receivers out there, and their quarterback has done a real nice job, so I'm excited that we were able to get a shutout," River Hill coach Brian Van Deusen said. "We knew it was going to be a test. We had some backups in the secondary but they stepped up late and made some picks."

Wilde Lake's Cuinn Mullins rushed for 20 yards and caught three passes for 30 yards, and Earl Mackel had two sacks and a tackle for loss.

"We just couldn't get going because of the wet balls. We'd move the ball a little and then something bad would happen," Wilde Lake coach Mike Harrison said. "It was just one of those games."
