Persistence and patience paid off as Oakland Mills won its first Howard County game of the season, 4-1, over Wilde Lake Tuesday afternoon. Both teams were looking for their first county victory.
Oakland Mills' scoring was spread between Victoria Gordon, Morgan Carroll, Jordan Kerr and Sarah Schurman.
Wilde Lake's goal came from Abby Burmester with an assist from Marissa Sciabarra.
"It was kind of nice to win," said Oakland Mills coach Nikki Trunzo.
She expressed empathy for Wilde Lake though. "I'm happy that they scored a goal. I've been in that position."
Trunzo also complimented Wilde Lake goalie Paige Boyer. "She's really good."
