Howard County volleyball season recap

There were no state champions from Howard County in volleyball this year, but there was still plenty of great action. Volleyball reporter Andrew Conrad gives a recap of the season's top teams and players. (Jon Sham/Howard County Times video)

The 2014 Howard County volleyball season had its share of ups and downs, with Glenelg outlasting the competition to win the county title, followed by its second straight regional title and a trip to the state finals, where the Gladiators lost to powerhouse North Hagerstown.

Sarah Girard led the way for Glenelg with more than 400 kills, in concert with her younger sister, junior setter Rachael Girard.

Reservoir's Maddy Belt also had an outstanding season, making her a Player of the Year candidate, and the Gators defeated Glenelg twice, making them the only team in the league that was able to earn a victory over the county champion.

Centennial, led by Meghan Kelley; Howard, led by Hanna Webster; Marriotts Ridge, led by Molly Meininger; Mt. Hebron, led by Reeana Richardson; and Wilde Lake, led by Kelly Surkovich, also had a memorable season.
