While Howard County girls golf lost a few of its prominent faces to graduation, the next crop of standouts did a solid job of elevating their respective games to earn themselves a turn in the spotlight this fall.
Mt. Hebron's Josephine Jung was among the area's most improved players, improving her scoring average by several points and going on to win the county and region championships. She also finished in a tie for fourth at the state championships.
Atholton senior Amanda Petersen also had a strong year, finishing right behind Jung at the county and region tournaments.
In terms of the team competition, it was Howard that capitalized on a trio of solid freshmen and sophomores — Alex Abrams, Jackie Cherry and Harper Lurie — to win the first county championship in program history.
Golf reporter Brent Kennedy discusses those storylines and many more in his season recap video.
