Hammond baseball overcomes early deficit at Oakland Mills

In a Saturday morning matinee, the Hammond baseball team found itself quickly behind, 2-0, at Oakland Mills before eventually rallying for an 8-4 victory.

After giving up the two early runs in the bottom of the first, Hammond starting pitcher JT Brittain (7 H, 2 ER, 8 K, 4 BB) settled in to earn the victory, pitching into the sixth inning and allowing only two more runs.

Sam Wiedorfer led the offensive charge for the Golden Bears, doubling twice, singling twice and scoring two runs. Andy Weaver homered, singled, drove in two runs, and crossed the plate three times.

Scorpions catcher Andrew Atkins doubled as one of his three base hits, and drove in two runs. Chris Clyde also doubled, singled and drove in a run.

Golden Bears ace David Hutchison came on with two outs in the sixth, then allowed just one hit in the seventh to close it out.

It was a relatively clean game, as each team committed only two errors.
