With the exception of two games, a running clock was the order of the day Thursday as Glenelg, Atholton, Reservoir and Howard all beat their opponents by at least 10 goals.

In closer games, Centennial defeated River Hill, 13-7, and Glenelg Country lost to Gerstell, 13-11, in overtime, in a non-conference game.

Reservoir 18, Long Reach 3

Sophomore Alex Sadzewicz had five goals and an assist, and senior teammate Anna Janush had a goal and five assists as Reservoir soundly defeated Long Reach.

With a 10-goal advantage, the Gators forced a running clock in the first half. By game's end, nine different players scored.

"We were working together and moving the ball around," Sadzewicz said. "We were trying to get people who don't normally score to score, and we were trying to perfect our offense."

"We definitely wanted to get everyone involved," said Janush.

All of Long Reach's scoring came from Lillie Miller.

Ironically, both teams had "new" goalkeepers.

A spring break band trip cost Reservoir the services of its regular keeper and a starting midfielder.

Defender Emily Rowell, who played a little goal during the indoor season, volunteered to take over in goal for this weekend's Karl Wolf tournament. What the Gators didn't realize until just before Thursday's game was that Rowell would be needed then as well.

"It was awesome of her to step up and play goal for us," Janush said.

Rowell had six saves.

Long Reach's Megan Haley had never played goalie before this season.

In spite of Haley's seven saves, it was a frustrating day for Long Reach.

"We weren't ready to match up. … We are capable of playing a lot better than we showed today," said Lightning coach Colleen Delaney.

Reservoir coach Katie Lee had the exact opposite feeling about her team.

"I was very proud of my girls with their hustle, playing together as a team and working together to set each other up," she said.
