Five local runners earn Howard County Striders' grants

The Howard County Striders announced that five individuals have won grants as part of the club's David Tripp Scholar/Athlete Program. The awards recognize outstanding academic and running-related athletic achievements over four years of high school.

Three winners were from River Hill High School: Mark Moody ($1,500); Allison Krein ($1,500); and Elizabeth Oldhouser ($1,000). In addition, Howard High School's Gabrielle Rayner ($1,000) and Atholton High School's Jen Bleakney ($1,000) were also recognized.

The group of five had: an average weighted grade point average of 4.55; took 37 Advanced Placement courses; averaged 2,050 on the three sections of the Scholastic Aptitude Tests; earned 50 varsity letters in cross country and track and field; won more than 10 Maryland State Championships, individually or on teams; and set multiple County and State Records.
