Centennial and Hammond both were dominant in winning their homecoming football games Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles improved to 5-1 with a 31-0 shutout of winless Atholton. The Golden Bears (4-2) ended a two-game losing streak with a 44-14 rout of Marriotts Ridge (1-5).
Centennial 31, Atholton 0
Atholton turned the ball over six times at Centennial, including two interceptions by Damon Reaves in the first quarter. Austin Kraisser also intercepted a pass, and the Raiders fumbled the ball away three times (recoveries by Connor Marcinek, Kade Conner and John Kolp).
Centennial's Walter Fletcher rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
Atholton's Byran Barney led the Raiders offense with four catches for 104 yards.
The Atholton defense was led by Cody Stolar (13) and Bryan Gsell (10) with a combined 23 tackles.
It was Centennial's first shut out of the season, and the Eagles now have the league's second-ranked offense with 187 points scored, behind only defending state champion River Hill with 201.
At 5-1, Centennial is tied for second place in Howard County with Glenelg. River Hill is the league's last undefeated team.
Hammond 44, Marriotts Ridge 14
The Golden Bears posted a season-high offensive output, with 44 points, as senior Tyler Martin completed 17 passes for 286 yards and four touchdown passes, to Brendan Urban (7 catches, 100 yards), John Mbah (5 catches, 53 yards), Deandre House (4 catches, 112 yards) and Lolando Hamilton (3 catches, 42 yards). Martin was also the Golden Bears' leading rusher, with 40 yards on eight carries.
Hammond's Saul Whittaker recorded eight tackles and returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown to lead the defense.
