Three guys scored in double figures, led by 13 points apiece from Brandon Willis and Chris Carter, as Atholton extended its win streak to five straight on Friday night with a 56-41 victory over Wilde Lake.
After struggling through a stretch where they lost six out of eight games, the Raiders' recent surge has come at the perfect time, according to coach Jared Albert.
"It's nice, because we are definitely playing a lot better of late and this is the time you want to be playing your best with the playoffs right around the corner," Albert said. "We are getting a lot of production out of a lot of different guys, too, which is nice to see. I'm really pleased with the growth of our team throughout the year."
Atholton (9-6 county, 11-7 overall) ended up with a total of nine different guys with at least two points against Wilde Lake (1-14, 3-15), which was led by Tre'Von Morgan (12 points) in the loss.
The Wildecats actually got off to a great start on Friday, grabbing a 10-2 lead in the first few minutes of the first quarter. But as the game went on, Atholton's defense tightened up.
The Raiders held Wilde Lake to just five points in the second quarter, surging back into a 26-18 lead by halftime.
"We came back and responded with some steals that allowed us to get back ahead and, once we got the lead, we maintained our energy to pull away," Albert said.
Atholton held the Wildecats to just seven points in the third quarter en route to pushing its lead into double digits.
Aside from Willis and Carter, Atholton also got big games from Casey Kelly (11 points) and Cole Mason (7).
The Raiders have a couple of huge games on tap for next week, with a match-up against first-place Centennial on Monday and then a meeting with third-place Reservoir on Friday.
