Howard Community College cross country runners earn postseason accolades

With Howard Community College's cross country runners preparing for the NJCAA Division III National Championships on Saturday, some of the team's individuals were recognized for their regular season efforts.

For the men's team, Gary Smolyak (Atholton High School) was selected first team All-Region and All-MD JUCO. The former Raider was also named NJCAA Division III Runner of the Week (Oct. 28).

Additionally, Adam Gartrell (Reservoir), Brooks Ward, Edgar Propst and Sam Graves were first-team All-Region selections.

For the women, Caroline Haden (Howard) and Anna Sandacz were awarded first-team All-Region and All-MD JUCO distinctions.

After the success for the No. 2 men's team, and a strong season for the women, Dragons coach Steve Musselman was named the Men's Division III Regional Coach of the Year.
